Resurfacing refers to the process of re-finishing and refurbishing the court’s surface. It involves “painting” a tennis court with an acrylic resurfacer and color coating. For repairing existing tennis courts, resurfacing also includes filling in water accumulation areas. The type of court also affects the resurfacing process and determines which repair products are used.
For all hard court surfacings, acrylic coating is used, and sand is mixed in (up to 400lbs per 7200 SQFT court). For court repair involving surface cracks, patch binder is used.
At We Build Pickleball, we ensure that every resurfacing project is done with precision to extend the life of your court and enhance playability.
Resurfacing tennis courts becomes necessary to maintain the quality and performance of tennis courts. The resurfacing process typically involves the following steps:
Meet your Client Relations Manager. They will help survey the pickleball court location. Together, you can select the best court dimensions. You will then receive a detailed quote based on square footage.
Our Client Relations Manager will hand off to the construction team. Preparing documents & permits as well as a custom pickleball court diagram.
In the final stage, we start the full surfacing process. First, we apply a black primer to help the coating stick. Then we add six total layers of resurfacer and color. Once that’s done, we paint the game lines—whether it’s for tennis, pickleball, or a multi-sport court.
Pickleball courts are smaller than tennis courts, so you can fit more than one pickleball court inside a single tennis court layout. A standard 120’x60’ court can fit up to 4 pickleball courts. The process involves:
Measuring and marking the correct dimensions for pickleball courts.
Applying durable, high-visibility lines that won’t interfere with tennis play.
Customizing colors to differentiate between sports while keeping a clean look.
At We Build Pickleball, we ensure that your court is optimized for both tennis and pickleball, providing a multi-sport solution that maximizes space and functionality.

Resurfacing is part the regular maintenance of a court. The more regular use a acrylic surface gets, the more often it needs to be serviced.
As tennis courts age, they develop birdbaths, low spots, cracks, and color fading. These birdbaths allow water to pool over time, causing further damage and staining the acrylic paint surface. Resurfacing enhances longevity and performance, with line paint and court color staying bright, ensuring a more durable and aesthetically pleasing court.
Cracks in the court surface not only affect the aesthetics but also create tripping hazards. Resurfacing repairs these cracks, ensuring a smooth and safe playing surface. Patch binder is applied to fill in the cracks, helping to prevent further damage and maintain the integrity of the new sport surface.
Over time, the colors and line paint on your court may fade due to sun exposure, weather conditions, or frequent use. Resurfacing is the most effective solution for this. Every tennis court resurfacing includes a fresh coat of paint, improving visibility and enhancing the overall appearance of your court.
Cracks, low spots, and worn areas can disrupt the game by causing unpredictable bounces, slower play, and difficulty moving. Resurfacing restores a smooth, even surface for enhanced performance.
With years of experience, we expertly repair birdbaths, low spots, and hairline cracks using professional-grade patch binder. This ensures your entire court is level, providing a consistent and high-quality playing experience.

The cost to resurface a tennis court varies based on factors like size, surface type, the extent of repairs needed, and your location. On average, most resurfacing projects range from a few thousand to several tens of thousands of dollars, depending on these variables.
The repair method varies based on the type of damage. Minor cracks can be filled, but larger issues may require patching or a full resurfacing. It’s recommended to consult a professional to determine the best repair solution for your court.
An acrylic tennis court is a hard court constructed on a concrete or asphalt foundation. A smooth acrylic coating is then applied to provide a durable, even surface. This type of court ensures consistent ball bounce and dependable performance for players.
The lifespan of an acrylic coating on a tennis court depends on factors like usage, maintenance, and climate. Typically, it lasts between 4 to 8 years before resurfacing or maintenance is needed.
For smaller projects, like resurfacing a single tennis court, the process typically takes 3-4 days. Adding extra courts generally adds only one more day per court, as some parts of the resurfacing can be done simultaneously, reducing paint drying time.
